Educational practices are undergoing
a revolution, and campuses also are reflecting major changes. Buildings
need to house interdisciplinary studies, not just a single function. All-purpose
facilities accommodate multiple technologies such as an electronic library
with wired cafeteria/study hall. Our designs for educational buildings
are open-ended, allowing expansion. We think of interiors as "soft",
accomodating changes in response to evolving curriculum, while exterior
shells are "hard", featuring materials which can last over 50
years. Buildings can serve as links to exterior space or as focal points,
generating activities around them.
